Malcolm is the Captain of a small cargo/passenger vessel. He is intelligent, inventive, and analytical, and values the input of his crew. He is immediately intrigued to meet Kit, and invites her to join his crew out of a desire to offer a helping hand.

A native of Scotland, Earth, Malcolm’s accent is thick, but understandable. His emotional connection with Kit strengthens when she reveals the truth of her past and her true name. This connection grows steadily over her time with his crew, eventually culminating in an unbreakable instinctual telepathic union with the young woman.

Malcolm earns a scar on his right cheek when he’s almost killed by Lexor No after Kit’s abduction, and he fearlessly challenges decillionaire Dantor Gretanius—Kitania’s abusive former ‘master’—despite the fact that he knows he likely won’t survive their next confrontation.

Kit’s reunion with her people complicates their relationship, as her personal Guard immediately pushes the human crew away. Malcolm sees Rian (Kit’s bodyguard) as a romantic rival, but supports her role amongst her people anyway. His unflinching loyalty earns him the respect and friendship of the other Lucarn, beginning with Willow, Kit’s mentor.

In the end, Kit’s victory over a lifetime of abuse and exploitation, and the establishment of Lucarn sovereignty before the Central Government, is only possible with his staunch support, his patience, and his ingenuity in the construction of several devices that allow Kit’s natural abilities to utilize the crystals found within the Lucent Nebula.
